AI is no longer just a buzzword—it’s rapidly transforming cybersecurity practices. Here’s how it’s making an impact:

🤖 Threat Detection and Response

AI-powered tools are enabling real-time threat detection at a scale humans can’t match. Platforms like Microsoft Sentinel, CrowdStrike, and Darktrace use machine learning algorithms to scan massive volumes of data, detect anomalies, and respond to threats almost instantly. These tools are helping security teams detect zero-day threats and advanced persistent threats faster and more accurately than ever before.

🔍 Smarter Attacks with AI

Unfortunately, cybercriminals are using AI too. Generative AI models are being leveraged to write realistic phishing emails, create deepfake videos, and even automate malware that can adapt to its environment. This means attacks are becoming more targeted and harder to detect. As a result, organisations are under pressure to integrate AI threat detection into their defensive stack.

🛠️ AI Skills Now In Demand

The demand for professionals who can work with AI-enhanced security platforms is skyrocketing. Knowledge of data analysis, scripting, and automation combined with a cybersecurity foundation is a highly desirable skill set. Employers are seeking candidates who understand cyber threats and can leverage AI-driven solutions to stay ahead of them.

🧠 Ethical and Governance Challenges

With AI becoming more embedded in cybersecurity infrastructure, there's a growing need for governance and ethical guidelines. Companies must ensure that AI tools are not only accurate and efficient but also free from bias and transparent in their decision-making processes.

📌 What It Means For You:

If you're already in cybersecurity, now is the time to upskill in AI fundamentals. Take a course on machine learning or familiarise yourself with how AI is applied in cybersecurity tools. If you're new to the industry, understanding how AI supports threat detection and risk analysis will give you a major edge.

Mastering the Interview: "Where Do You See Yourself in Five Years?"

This question is a favourite among hiring managers—but it’s also one of the most misunderstood. Here's how to deliver a strong, authentic answer:

✅ Step 1: Align with the Role

Start by expressing genuine interest in the role you’re applying for. Tie your long-term goals to the position and company.

✅ Step 2: Show Growth Mindset

Highlight your desire to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to the organisation.

✅ Step 3: Include Specific Milestones

Rather than vague answers, reference milestones like certifications, promotions, or leadership aspirations.

Example Answer: "In five years, I see myself progressing into a senior cybersecurity role where I’m helping design and implement security strategies that protect the organisation. I’d love to earn certifications like the CISSP or OSCP by then and to mentor newer team members. I’m also interested in contributing to cross-functional projects that enhance our overall security posture."

This answer communicates ambition, loyalty, and alignment—all qualities hiring managers value.
